you can pay for school but you can't buy class

Inspired while having an MRI? I love this woman- not only does her style defy the
conventional sense of what we would look to as feminine French "fashion", but
her motives and reasoning are always intriguing and her pedigree speaks for itself.
Download her new single from her website.

kick it loose

Can't get enough of winter nights in the Midwest at the moment- the picture directly above was in fact taken at 1:30 am last week.  It's that terrible time of year where the sun rises to late and sets too early, but it becomes bearable when you run around in the middle of the night taking blurry, beer-fueled photos (which can't even turn out if you're using a camera-phone). Thankfully, that's where friends come in- those friends, with the fancy Nikons and Canons with necessary flashes that illuminate the snow and beautifully display the shadows of trees against the sky. Happy Christmas to all, etc.

If it's illegal to rock and roll, throw my ass in jail!

Dubbed by Dansk Magazine's blog as the "hottest book of the year"- I suppose it's safe to say that the 90's trend is officially here to stay.  Links below!

'white' christmas, cali style

(above, an early-morning sliver of my balcony.)
I'm beginning to really see the irony in lounging on my balcony, watching the sailboats on the bay, sipping a mimosa, all the while listening to Bing Crosby sing "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas".  Although I'm sure I won't feel entirely so jovial after touching down in the blizzard-happy Midwest, as winter here in California averages about 60 degrees.  But I'll be damned if I don't try to stay in a Golden State of mind until the last minute.  Expect to find me packing my long underwear and snow-pants (is there any way to make these look chic??) while watching the archived reruns of Beverly Hills, 90210.  Happy Holidays! xox

white light // alcohol

if you don't dream, then what

is the point of living?

Inspiration in the highest degree from photographer Brion Topolski- too epic for words, really, and quite possibly my new favorite photo.  Simply hitting the right note on this ethereal and rainy winter day.

the body electric

I think this Paris Vogue accessories editorial exemplifies what we're supposed to be calling "Scandi-chic" now-  I guess my entire wardrobe fits into that category, as it's mostly black, black, some grey, and more black.  The one thing I'm missing is the white-blonde hair....

people like us are extinct

Another terrific project from the team at Shopbop- I really don't
know anyone who can top their stylists, really, as there is not one
of their Lookbooks I haven't fallen head over heels in love with.

A side note regarding Isabelle McNally- check her out in the new S/S
2010 Lookbook for the always edgy, incredibly brilliant duo at
Obesity & Speed here, via Nylon.

somebody lonely

I've never been a fan of Damien Hirst, as I normally find him more than a little bit pretentious and too aggressive, but this... this, I like.

No Love Lost is showing now through January 2010 in the Wallace Collection in London.

run, don't walk

Too bad this isn't at the San Francisco MOMA.....
oh well, we got Richard Avedon.
(I have never been so intrigued by the thought of wearing striped
socks until now.)

take a walk on the wild side

New obsession- Jeffrey Campbell's Nation boot.  A little bit grunge, a little bit Alison Mosshart's gold Dior Homme boots (without the glitz).  Will be posting pictures of my new loves later in the week. xx

the jacket

Rick Owens killed it again.  Though he stays true to himself at all costs (namely his trademark asymmetrical designs in a monochromatic color scheme) the man literally tops himself every time.  See above for the next Owens leather jacket that I'm sure will gain a cult following.
